Maldives - “Tsunami Refugees” (Part 1)

A community of 2000 people - Vilufushi; the most devastated island by the 2004 tsunami in the Rep. of Maldives. They were forced to moved out of their island and they are not allowed to return. Why? A search for the answer exposes the corruption of the Maldivian government.

    no i studied in male’ after tsunami. We have school,preschool. and their might be an hospital in our island. it much bigger and better.

    Yes. Vilifushi has been fully rebuilt. And we are going back to our island on 15 may 2009. I am a 18 yrs boy from vilifushi

    These interviews were taken in Buruni 3 or 4 months after the incident . What I would like to know if it these people, 3 or 4 years later, were allowed to return to their island. Was Vilifushi ever rebuilt?
