Milad Un-Nabi or Prophet's Birthday

In the Islamic Calendar, the 12th day in the month of Rabee-ul-Awwal marks the Prophet Muhammad's birthday. This day is one of the most celebrated festivals in the Maldives. The festival is to celebrate the strong faith of those devoted to Islam.

Prayer meetings and ceremonies take place in the mosques. Maldivians see it as a time to read the Qur'an, and remember the life, teachings and example of the Prophet Muhammad.

No festivity is complete without the aroma of home cooked delicious food, so like any other festival day, this day also brings with it a day of mouth watering dishes.
