The currency used in the Maldives is the Rufiyaa (Rf) which is divided into 100 laari.
Rufiyaa comes in different denominations of notes and coins. The notes come in denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 while the coins are available in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25 and 50 Laaris.
The exchange rate with the US dollar is USD 1.00 = MVR 12.75, 1 rufiyaa in Maldives is equal to 0.08 US dollars, 0.04 Great Britain pounds, 0.09 Canadian dollars, 0.10 Australian dollars, 0.06 Euros and 0.11 New Zealand dollars.
Resorts, as well as hotels in Male’, accept US dollars, traveller’s cheques and major credit cards such as American Express, Visa, Master Card and Diners Club. British pounds, German marks, Italian lira and Eurocard are also accepted, although US dollars is more widely received.

The Maldives Bank hours are from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm Sunday through Thursday. Friday is a public holiday.
