Health insurance services have been provided to all who are above 65 years of age and didn’t have health insurance, the National Social Protection Agency has said.
A consultant from the Agency, Thoriq Ali Luthufee, said on Sunday that all the hospitals that accept health insurance plans began providing the service on 1st January. He said that around 13,000 people over the age of 65 are estimated to be covered by the health insurance scheme.
The scheme was introduced in August last year and a large number of people enjoy its benefits now. Those covered by the insurance scheme include people registered as living in poverty, civil service employees and those removed from Government service as senior citizens.
The Government had already decided to give Rf2000 as pension to all who are above 65 years of age.
