The President commences an official visit to Italy

President Nasheed has this morning departed to Italy on an official visit.

Speaking to the media, before his departure, the President said the purpose of his visit was to seek European investments to various developmental projects and to facilitate European businesses to operate in the Maldives. In addition, the President said a key purpose of this visit was to give extra support to the country’s tourism sector in alleviating a possible negative impact of the global economic crisis on our tourism industry.

During his visit to Italy, the President will attend the inauguration ceremony of the BIT 2009. The President is also scheduled to give a press conference, which the government believes will help in promoting Maldivian tourism in Europe. He will also give media interviews to some of the prominent stations in Italy.
